The
physical properties of polyester film have made it the preferred
material for the electrical market:
• Dimensional stability
•
Thermal stability at elevated temperatures
•
Coefficient of friction
•
Tensile break strength
•
Tensile yield strength
•
Elongation at break
•
Chemical and electrical resistance
•
High dielectric constant
•
Lower extractable content
•
High electrical breakdown voltage
Varieties of polyester film are approved for UL registered electrical
systems that are rated as high as Class F (155°C). It can be
used as an electrical insulation and as a laminate with other substrates.
Certain laminates are approved for use in systems rated as high
as Class R (220°C).
For
demanding electrical insulation applications,DuPont Kaladex®polyethylene
naphthalate (PEN) filmbridges the gap between polyester and polyimide
films.
