DRUMSKINS: |
|
REMO was the first to use Mylar® polyester
film as a replacement for animal skin drumheads more than
40 years
ago.
Opening its doors in 1957, Belli's firm quickly made news
with the first big change in drum construction since man
first stretched
an animal skin over wood. He formed drumheads of DuPont Mylar® polyester
film. The tone and condition of Mylar® isn't affected
by environmental conditions. The availability of Mylar® also
made drums widely accessible at affordable prices to legions
of '50s
and '60s garage bands.
Some weights of Mylar® withstand
thousands of pounds of pressure without splitting — something
that expensive animal skins just can't equal. And without
compromising this
strength, the appearance and thickness of Mylar® can
be modified to meet varied needs.
Polyester standard drum films include crystal clear,
hazy, milky white, and opaque black.
Polyester film is also very easy to use. Because it is
a homogeneous product no selection of raw material has to
be undertaken before cutting and shaping the heads. Heads
are
normally shaped using heat and pressure before being bonded
to hoops by means of which the head tension is applied.
Polyester Converters Ltd. have supplied to some of the
world's leading producers of drums including:
Premier Percussion and Sonor
